Three poems

Small-town on the road between Kushiro and Sapporo

Two tall Japanese pines and
flowers surround this old,
tumble-down house
where no one lives.

Snowbird

Today the old red macaw
is on his perch munching seeds
as the arctic wind whips past.

Does this out-of-place bird
Dream of steaming tropical
Forests?
— In front of a pet store, Kushiro, December 13, 2007

Guitarist Leo Kottke

Said his voice sounds like
Goose farts on a muggy day.

But his guitar,
Oh, what a voice it has!
