On time

One of my obsessions is
being on time. For me
that means being early.

I used to show up at work
an hour early, raising
the question: “Why?”

My answer, that I enjoy getting
to work early made me
the office oddball.

No one knew I had most of my
paperwork and planning
done when the office opened.

Now retired, I arrive at the bus stop fifteen
minutes early. “It saves standing,”
I reply if anyone asks why.

I’m nearly always
first in line.
